Radeen and I will be heading to the Bahamas this year 2012-2013 for our second exploration. Last year was year one cruising for us and we focused on the Abacos. What a beautiful place. This year we are looking into exploring the Exumas first and then sailing north back into the Abacos.

Right now our general plan looks like this....

Oct...MD to Brunswick GA
Dock while we make a family wedding visit to Pheonix
GA to Vero Beach for Thanksgiving
Vero to Biscayne Bay, Coconut Grove Sailong Center, enjoy and sail Biscayne for a month
Biscayne to Marathon Key, Captain Jim's Harbour Cay Club mid Dec to mid Jan
End of Jan depart for Exumas via Nassau to Georgetown and south (wx permitting, if not, then play in Keys n FL west coast)
Feb Exumas
March-April Exumas north to Abaco

May Abacos to Maryland, returning to Rock Hall end of May 2013
June-Aug, New England and Block Island.
????... 2013 Maine Island Packet Rendezvous.....how can we miss the Best IP rendezvous? Who knows...
Sep...Rock Hall, MD.....time for a break maybe.....

So, that is our upcoming cruising year.

Is anyone else going south?
Anyone going to the Exumas, or Abacos?
Anyone going to Florida?

Hayden

Hayden

Its will be five winters since Contented Turtle cruised
Bahamas and we sure miss it! I am looking forward to
following your cruise. Your itinerary is awesome, just
how we did it for several years. When you get to exumas,
remember the then famous quote in the fleet, from a French Canadian
boat when they heard we were headed into Pipe Creek for
the first time... 'You go in on a rising tide?' :)

Jess:
We have followed your stories and we will look to you to guide us into the Exumas with routes and anchorages. This will be all new to us and a first time into the Exumas. So any and all information will be appreciated.
Thanks Jesse.

Totally glad to help in any way Hayden.
The vicarious thrills to this once again landlubber
will be most appreciated. For exumas my best overall
advise is 'take is SLOWLY' and enjoy every anchorage
on the way south!
We always felt like we got to Georgetown 'too soon'.

Now for the next piece of advice that will totally open
up a new avenue of cruising adventure - when you check
in with customs, be sure to get your fishing license to
include spear fishing! This, of course, assumes that the
reefs are still as beautiful as they were 4 winters ago...
I hear that the lionfish are taking their toll. I wonder
have you had an opportunity to fish this way yet?
