Eau de Vie is an IP35 (1989 vintage). In 2002 I replaced the lifelines and added a spinnaker halyard and replaced the main halyard, but that is it. Since I remained in the Chesapeake for most of the last 10 years and am now looking forward to broader cruising, it is time for a refit. It will include the following:
  1. Replace All Standing Rigging and Turnbuckles
  2. Inspect and rebed chain plates
  3. Replace sheaves and re-configure halyards to run inside the mast
  4. Replace running rigging
  5. Add an LED Tricolor to the top of the mast.
  6. Re-powder coat the mast fitting on the cabin top and repair the mast boot with Spar-Tite.
The work is being done in Worton Creek in the Chesapeake. I will start a blog to chronicle the work and post some updates here...

I will be using Sipala Rigging and Spars who works with the Warf at Hanby’s Point on Worton Creek. Seco south would provide the standing rigging but it would still need to be installed and the added work of running the halyard inside the mast and inspecting the chain plates are all additional. I have not received the quote yet from Mike but he did indicate that he would be able to meet the price for the HW that Seco South which I have already provided. Mike also has a lot of good recommendations. We are looking replacing running rigging with stronger, but thinner diameter lines and using bearing blocks so that they flow more smoothly.

I think that is a good idea as I have heard only good comments about Sipala Rigging. I need to do this when we return as well. I will be interested in this job as it progresses. Thanks Dave.

Here is a photo of the turnbuckles from the boat vs. a new one. Note the elongation over time! This emphasises why the work needs to be done and checked periodically.

The Rigging Replacement is underway. I am using Sipala Spars and Rigging. Buying from the oringal supplier to IP was comparable to Mike but the labor adds to it and Seco South whould have added swaging for the roller furlings. I am very happy to this point. I am also having all of the running rigging replaced and run inside the mast - no more slapping halyards... I will soon post photos of the remainder of the work.

Dave, this sounds like a really good reference and good rigger for the upper Chesapeake Bay. I know John and Nancy on Larking About were happy with his work. I am glad to hear it is going well. I plan to also use Mike for some rigging work ion June. Thanks

The rigging work is wrapping up and more photo's will be posted shortly. All of the halyards have now been run inside the mast and are secured by these spinlocks on the mast. This keeps everything secure and frees up a winch for other needs including MOB. I had some blistering on the deck plate and had it removed during the winter to be sandblasted and powder coated. All chain plates were inspected and re-bedded and no issues were found. More to follow...

No, I did not post any more, as the rest of the work did not stand out as looking any different. Hayden may have some more info on the work he is having done by the IP Factory. I am pleased with the work performed in Rock Hall. Additional work included putting an LED tricolor on the mast.
