DC Genset

I installed the small Kubota DC genset (160 amp large case alternator) far enough aft in the port side lazarette that (at 6’4”, 220) I can still climb down in to service it. I really lost very little usable space. The use of the existing aft-cabin sink drain thru-hull as a raw water supply made things much easier as I ran the raw water hose up through the hanging locker and along the portside hull-deck joint. The 3-way fuel valve is easily accessed via the galley engine access door and made getting fuel to the genset much easier. I ran the fuel return line directly back to the fuel tank. I ran the fused genset alternator output back to the standard battery combiner solenoid which reduced the battery cable run. The start battery switch is just a safety precaution in the event that the starter switch jammed. The water-lift muffler has a long looped run well above the water line under the helm seat to avoid any chance of water being forced in from a following wave. The exhaust thru-hull is far aft in the port side lazarette. The output is controlled by a separate Balmar 612 regulator for a completely redundant charging system.
