Double-Reefed Genoa

Sunday - October 25, 2015Views: 1203Taken at Scarsdale, NY
In heavy wind I like using my genoa, double-reefed, for as long as I can, since pointing without it is virtually impossible. I say "double" reefed even though it's on a furler and can in theory have innumerable reefing positions, because I have two standard reefing positions that I use. They're marked on the foot of the sail (both sides) and on the furling line. When using the sail double-reefed, I have to run a spare jib sheet between the shrouds and inside the lifeline to avoid having the regular sheet press in on the lifelines and midship stanchion. I've rigged it at the dock and will test it next weekend. I'd be interested to know whether other IP27 owners have tried this.
