Cable Control Head Replacement on IP27
The original CH 1000 cable control head on my IP27-146 "Turtleheart" stripped out, and the manufacturer (Teleflex) no longer services it or sells parts, so I installed a new one, a Teleflex CH2100P, purchased on-line from Hamilton Marine in Maine ($181 delivered). After removing the old one I had to enlarge the hole, using the supplied template and a cutting bit on my Dremel tool. I mounted the new unit and connected the shifter and throttle cables. I had to adjust the throttle cable at the engine; the shifter cable needed no adjustment. The original neutral safety switch did not fit the new control head, but I was able to locate one that did, a Cherry 0E3400A0 miniature pin plunger micro switch, purchased on-line from Newark/Element14 ($12 delivered). I attached it to the control head using the original hardware and wiring harness. I also epoxied a #4 machine screw into a plastic ball to screw into the neutral button -- much easier to find! Works fine.
