Why Knot Mast Removed & Rigging Replaced

These are pictures of what we found when we had our mast pulled. We decided to have new wiring installed for our new Raymarine electronics. The messenger lines that IP left had rotted and broke off about 6 ft from the bottom of the mast. Note to self: Don't leave messenger lines for the future, they break and rot then you have a tangled mess to undo. We also found a few things we had not expected, like a garden growing in the bottom of our mast! Yep, real green plants! Also, bird egg shells, snails and about 2 in. of what looked like potting soil in the boot of the mast. AND NO COIN!! Needless to say there will be a coin when the mast goes back up ... maybe 2 coins to make up for not having one when the mast was removed. I am posting these pictures and will post others when the mast is placed back. I hope to have pictures of how the mast was placed back in the boat. (None of the removal). And of the interior of the mast after the new wiring is put in.
