Replacing Schaefer Rope Clutches

Tuesday - December 25, 2007Views: 5390
These photos show how I replaced the original Schaefer rope clutches that were chewing up my lines. I checked with Schaefer, Spinlock, Lewmar, and Garhauer to try to find a replacement with the same footprint and mounting hole spacing. No luck. The closest I found was the Spinlock XAS0612/2, so that's what I used. IP advised that there is a 2-1/4" x 4-3/4" x 1/2" aluminum plate glassed into the deck boss (under the mounting pad), and that I could drill and tap new holes for the new hardware. That's what I did, after filling the old holes with epoxy.
