Removing shaft without removing rudder

We've been suffering from shaft vibration, and after ruling out everything else we thought it was due to too much exposed shaft following a maxprop install. We were about to drop the rudder to remove the shaft when we gave Warren a quick call, and he and Tom suggested the following process. First class customer service.
After removing, shortening and refitting the shaft we came to reinstall the prop and noticed that it didn't fit all the way on with the key in place. A careful look at the prop revealed salt-water build up in places where it should have been in contact with the shaft. So it seems likely that the prop wasn't fitted correctly in the first place, and was wobbling a little on the shaft. We filed down the key, and now the vibration is gone.
