Pumpout Addition

I have installed a Sealand mascerator pump on a shelf that spans the width of the thru-hull valve compartment at a height that positions the top of the pump as close as possible, with a little clearance for vibration to the underneath of the settee. The pump is on the right-hand side of this shelf. This shelf is attached on each end with aluminum angle to the the fore and aft vertical bulkheads in this compartment.
Two (2) bronze ball valves and bronze elbows and tees to get the necessary flow pattern that I needed have also been added plus another ball valve between the inlet to the pump and the tank such that while pumping out at a pumpout station thru the deck pumpout fitting I don't apply suction to the gland of the pump. (Although I think this gland probally could handle a little vacuum pressure without damage. I just felt more comfortable with this arrangement.) This valve is mounted on a bracket that attaches to the vertical wall of the port settee.

The rest of the sewage system was upgraded as well with a new tank installed and hoses replaced. Since other owners have described in detail this type activity I refer you to those postings which are very helpful. I chose to remove the vanity sink in the head and go through the counter-top cutout for access to the hoses. A trick to running new head hoses through the bulkhead and floor is to use a large diameter rope running through the hose attaced to a wooden stopper block on the trailing-end and pull on the other end of the rope which has been run through the route you want the hose to follow while someone else is also pushing. Another trick is to soap the first 1-2 feet of hose with Ivory Liquid dishsoap so that it slides easier through the bulkheads and floor.
Good Luck!
