Kidde Fyre Watch, Fireboy, in Engine Room

Tuesday - May 2, 2006Views: 10038
I installed a Kidde Fyre Watch Model FW50 FM200 in our engine room of our IP35-165. I was able to mount it high and with a good angle into the room. My engine room temp measures 140 F during the summer.

Updated, 8/11/09: This first one, mounted over the alternator, ended up deploying on one hot aug. Chesapeake day! It fired off, sounded like a bomb, and shout down the engine in a second. Of course I thought I had an engine room fire, but lucky for me it was simply heat.

So....now our second one is mounted aft of the starboard engine room door and has worked well for years. Be aware not to mount yours over the alternator as the heat rising off the alt can and will set off the fireboy. The good news is, there is NO mess, and they really do shut down the engine!
