IP27 Packing gland, shaft, coupler, and cutless bearing

Wednesday - June 17, 2009Views: 8010
After reaching my frustration limit trying to adjust my packing gland on our IP27 I just decided to take it all apart and do it right. I knew deep down like every project taking stuff apart always leads to finding other fun projects. This one started with pulling the engine since my 6' body is not getting anywhere near the shaft. I took the opportunity to clean and paint the engine. Then after taking the shaft out it was scored so bad I decided it had to be replaced (yes I thought about moving the packing glad an inch or two forward and decided against it). Of course the shaft coupler to the engine needed to be replaced too...and when everything is apart....the cutlass bearing was at the end of it's life as well. So adjusting a packing gland turned into quite the project. I decided to post some pics. Of course I'm missing a few pics.

If anyone is interested in learning how to pack a packing gland here is a tutorial (a fellow IP'er found this link).
