Fuel Polishing System

Since we bought Wavefarer, almost 3 years ago we have only used about 100 gallons of 160 gallons of fuel. Since our plan is not to go cruising for several years and since our yearly outings consist of daysails and a trip to Catalina, we decided that we needed a way to keep our fuel fresh. The fuel was starting to look pretty dark and was clogging up the filters faster than I thought appropriate. Since IP doesn't easily allow users access to inspect and clean the fuel tank, I decided to go for the next best thing a fuel polishing system. I had some help from David Blue of Mobile Filtration to get it done.
We can clean fuel at the dock, at the rate of .3 gallons per minute, by pumping the Algae-X stabilized fuel up through the Algae-X Fuel Conditioner, one of two Racor 500 10m filters, and back to the tank.
Underway, we flip the lower valve to run and then run the fuel through one of two Racors to the engine. In the unlikely event one gets clogged we can switch over underway and change the other one in port. We can still use the motor to bleed like the old system.
