Estrellita, IP38-138, Marquesas and Tuamotus

We have been sailing through French Polynesia for the past 3 months. Our 90 day visa expires day after tomorrow so we are finally headed out towards Tonga.

Here is a collection of photos pulled from literally thousands that we have taken here. I guess until we become better and more discriminating photographers we will be in debt to the digital camera for saving us the cost of developing countless photos of someone’s feet, or blurry landscapes taken from moving cars!

We have been overwhelmed at the friendly reception we (all cruisers) receive from the Polynesians. It is as if they know they live in one of the most wonderful places on earth and tourists are just another natural and endearing part of their daily experience. Also we have been struck with an obvious liking for the United States. We see American flags all over the place. There was a car dealership in Papeete that flew US flags like every day was the 4th of July! The reception here is far warmer than that given tourists in the Caribbean.

James Michener wrote that Bora Bora is “the most beautiful island in the world and as close to paradise as men in this world ever get” but our favorites are the Marquesas. In the Society Islands we like Moorea and Tahiti. Bora is nice, but we just got a better feel for these others.

At the risk of abusing this great resource provided by Hayden we have posted two collections.
