Replacing an SL1000 Vertical Windlass with a Lighthouse 1501 Horizontal Windlass

The SL1000 motor rusted solid after three years of use.

Made a cardboard template of the Lighthouse for testing fit on the bowsprit.

It would have fit here, covering the old windlass hole, but Norm Pierce suggested moving it aft.

Installing the new windlass further aft allowed for using the stainless steel backing plate.

Removed hawse pipes.

Drilled 2 inch hole for new windlass shaft.

Planed a solid teak board to extend bow platform and mount windlass. Chain falls through old holes.

Filled old windlass hole with 1" teak and epoxy. Covered with starboard.

View from bow.

From bowsprit.

Why we do it... successfully anchored at Cape Lookout, NC
