I'm getting ready to install a rigid boom vang on our IP 27 PANACEA. I chose to use the tang that fits in the track on the bottom of the boom instead of the boom saddle for a cleaner factory look. Are there any special tricks or obstacles other than drilling out and removing the pop rivets from the front cap of the boom? Should I replace with stainless or aluminium rivets? Would this be preferred to grinding one side of the track near the gooseneck on the bottom of the boom for access (like a mainsail slug gate on the mast) ? Thank you for any input on this manner. Jeff

Mark at garhauer suggested not using the IP tang instead of the saddle provided- I think he was concerned about the strength of the installation if done that way. I was going to install the vang as you would like to do ( and install it to a shackle at the base of the mast) I thought it would make the installation easier I havent installed it yet- it just snowed!

Thx for the reply. Just to clarify Mark at Garhauer built the tang for the boom track. I'm not using the factory tang just trying to figure out the best way to get it in the track. PANACEA already had a C bracket with a pin installed on the mast. They are saying 70 here this wkend I'm excited about that! Thx Jeff

Oh, I got it now, maybe that's the way I should have gone. Let us know how it all, works out for you. I know I gotta drill holes in the boom and the mast. I already installed one of them on my previous Cat30
