I am back on this wind machine idea now that I have completed my solar expansion to 350 watts total now. That takes care of all the power needs usually, but on night passages with everything on, we needed to run the engine at about 4am. So....I am thinking that a wind machine could still be added to Island Spirit.

My new find on this topic is the D-400
www.semarine.com/store/product.php?productid=279&cat=82&page=1

These are made in the UK and are limited in the US to a few dealers. The dealer I am working with, Larry Janke This email address is being protected from spambots. The Boat Show Cost of this unit is around $2,000. It lists for around $2400.

When I asked Larry about the Air X/Breeze he said...

You will have to buy 3 Air Breeze to obtain the same output and you will not be able to stand the noise. D-400 has three times the output and is quiet. It is the only WG you can install inside the city limits of London. They are field repairable if that should ever become necessary. Air Breeze has to be returned to the manufacturer. The Air Breeze is a noisy little low output device, a waste of money. Buy a real wind generator. I have attached a paper on The cost savings you can expect over using your engine to charge your batteries Larry

WOW....this D-400 needs to be looked into...

Here is one more rep for the D-400

DOES ANYONE know anyone with this D-400 wind generator?

Interesting conclusions about wind generators - totally agree that noise
is a major consideration when choosing one. We usually tied off our
(quiet) Windbugger for offshore passages to avoid problems if caught in
a squall or in rough bumpy (gulf stream) conditions. (The prop will stall
out when the boat rolls) So for us, batteries supplied power for overnight.
If you want alternative for offshore power only, why not taffrail towed generator?

Jesse

I have the Rutland 914. In Bahama's it worked great with 10-15 knots wind (steady),putting out between 6-8 amps. it kept up with my inverter running my c pap machine.

In Cheaspeke I can not say the same.
The Rutland to me is very quite, but i have always been a construction worker.
I have only had vibration issues above 20 knots, which is only in stern berth.

I would love to see you et the D 400, I heard noting but good stuff, but again i read it all
I have a proble with wait 0n the 400, I help a guy pick one up to install it ,he also suggusted with mount it weighted 54 pounds.
