Leaky Mast was created by Galileo
Hello,

Any ideas on why a mast would leak besides a mast boot. I don't think that is where the leak is occurring, but I could be wrong. Before I make an excursion up the mast, I'd appreciate any thoughts you may all have so I can check them all out at once. This is on an IP 37. Don't know if particular masts have particular issues or not.

Larry:

Please describe the leak. We fought this issue for several years and then discovered that we had a leak between the deck and under the mast plate that was leaking in under the boot!

Water was dripping on the sole under the mast cutout on deck - turned out to be sally/fresh!

Bobby,

Just came back from the boat. Went over to see what happens in the driving rain storm that is making its way up the east coast this week. The leak does not appear to be coming down from boot or the base of the collar to which the boot attaches. I removed all the stuff that typically accumulates down there since it was now nice and soft, dried everything up and watched. I did not observe any water coming down the outside of the mast, but wah la, a drop existed off one of the cables coming out the base of the mast after about ten minutes. I tied up a rabbit line made from dacron to see if that might be the cuprit (since it was damp), because I could see that one topsides through one of the unused mast rope cutouts. I'll watch it some more this week as we get more rain, then once it clears maybe make a foray up the mast to examine cable entrances into the mast, etc., to see where any incursions may be occurring. One thing that I can say is that over this past summer it seems to have gotten slightly worse.

You must have arrived in Grenada and are nice and warm.
