Hairline cracks... was created by badboo
So I dropped off the Boo Box to have a few hairline cracks filled and fixed up and wow OUCH... air voids all over the boat... is there anyone else with this discovery. Boo Box is hull number 156 IP35 and though none of the cracks are beyond cosmetic just the sheer volume is pretty bad. When I got her she had a few, but I started sailing hard and voila all of a sudden my beautiful boat seemed to grow them by the day. Rigging is tuned. OK enough whining. B

We have IP35-165, 1994 and have similar cracks in the gelcoat. We had these also develop on our 27 after 10 yrs of sailing her. I am not too worried about this and to me it is expected with hard use and the flexing these decks go throigh offshore. I am not sure if these are factory defects or if they develop with age, heat and use. We have most in the cockpit floor and a bunch on the starboard bow deck.

How are you repairing these?

Hayden

Hayden, I am having the boat yard glass guys do it, its beyond me to mix the crazy beige color...though it has turned out to be super costly.B

We've got IP35-179 and we have some of these also (

picture attached). We were told it's a common IP problem and that the layup of the gelcoat in this area was too thick and that they should be fixed every 5 yrs or so. They're checking them for moisture before they repair in the yard.

Hayden, so I am almost done with all my repairs, the gelcoat work turned out ok, but not great. the hairlines turned out to have voids under them. So it became a major glass work effort, the skill by Annapolis Yard was good when it comes to the glass, but the delivery is a bit sloppy the boat will need major cleaning on my part due to the dust and work smudges on the teak and canvas. I also have a few cracks (voids bellow) on the non-skid, but really don't want to go there sense the glass person here at the boat yard said their results are not very consistent with non skid areas, anyway turned out super expensive due to the labor hours involved. My compass ended up needing a replacement due to complete disintegration of the O rings, I've never seen anything like it, its almost as if someone before me filled it with acid instead of oil.

Hi guys, that's where I noticed mine at first and then I really started to sail mostly heavy winds and rest became apparent. Rig is tuned so its not that. The ones that worry me since repair is not very good in that area, are the once on the non skid near the sliding hatch on the companion way. B

My IP35-1991 also has hairline cracks... I just posted that I found water coming out where mast comes through deck.... And it was in between the deck and the ceiling.... I don't know if the water was brought in through the cracks....
