how do you regard the IP320? was created by mhayden
i have been lurking awhile, but now have a question.

i sail a beneteau first 285 and am thinking about something like the IP 320. from the brochures i like its interior. there don't seem to be many in my area to go see, and i wonder how they sail and what your comments on them might be?

i'm in the chesapeake bay and my interests are cruising the bay and the atlantic coast.

thank you so much,

Another Hayden (Mike):

The answer probably depends on what size boat you are used to. My personal experience before buying my 350 was a lot of time on a Tayana 37 in the Far East. Came back and bought a 350. There was so much more room on the 350 and the finner detail off the boat were much better in my opinion.

Try to find one that you can check out and even better charter for a week or so. Then you can decide if the boat is right for you.

The should be boats available on the Bay and if you need a reference to a current owner let me know - I know of one owner on the Southern end of the Bay - would refer you so you can talk turkey.

thanks bobby,

a 350 might be in the running also. it's a very nice boat. the reason i like the 320 and the 350 (among other things) is the pullman style berths.

also have to deal with my slip... it's not quite up to either, so i am on a waiting list.

thank you for the advice.

how tricky is your 350 to back?

Mike:

We to really like the pullman berth - find that when at anchor and we have a roll that makes the foreward berth uncomfortable we can go aft and not have any issue at all! And having two full size lazarettes and all of the incredible storage is great.

All of the IP's back differently than many of the other boats. When we bought our boat we took a bunch of clasees with the Md School of Sailing, all taught on our boat. We learned to back and control the boat and we developed a whole host of ways to deal with adverse current and wind. No issues you just have to learn how to handle the boat. People are really amazed when they watch us back down a fairway.......

Some folks resort to bow thrusters, even on the smaller boats, but in my opinion they are just not needed, you just need to learn how to handle the boat.
