Due to set off on Sunday Nov 7, the 1500 start was postponed until Wed Nov 10, to wait out unsettled wx picture in tropics. The wx Wed was clear, cold, SE 5kts. Most of the fleet motored from the start and crossed the Stream in calm conditions: but a Cold Front was forecast to arrive Sat/Sun from the west, with the promise of strong NE's 30+ knots. Our plan was to get across the Stream and then get some easting in: many of the fleet were more intent on getting south, as a) the Front would be possibly weaker the further south you were; and b) there was a cold eddy west of the rhum line, which was reckoned to be a good bet as long as you hit it west of center (cold eddy goes anticlockwise.) We decided that crew and boat were good for whatever the Front brought, and that the cold eddy was too far west and might well be full of 'red herrings.' So our plan took us on a more Easterly course than almost everybody else.
