Rigging for Dutchman Brake

Monday - March 31, 2008Views: 4513
Here is an 'accidental' pic of the double rope clutch on Larking About's starboard quarter, that leads the jib furler and the Dutchman boom brake line onto the starboard auxiliary winch.

The pic shows that the boom brake is on: its line is led through the rope clutch and then onto the winch. The jib is furled and its furling line is secured by the rope clutch and is then hanked onto a bimini strut.

The pic is of the divers who replaced the broken Autoprop (owner's fault for not servicing it at 1,000 hours) with a fixed three blade the day before leaving St Martin for Bermuda, May 2007.

Note the sorry state of the teak, which had faired badly on a hard beat to Bermuda the previous November - now repaired and gleaming!

When back aboard I will take and post more pictures of the Dutchman boom brake installation on LA. JFK 31 March 2008
