I have been using free WiFi in the Abacos and I have also been looking into the available paid WiFi services. We use the Bullet2hp for connecting to WiFi and we use an onboard router to distribute it to the laptops, iPad and Droids. Here are the two paid services I have found so far.
There are in no order, just the order I found them

#1 Out Island Internet www.abacoinet.com/
price is $99/mo or $150/mo

#2. Bahamas WiMax www.bahamaswimax.com/
price is $105/month

We also use a VPN service for added security, thanks to Lamar, our IP420 buddy.
Astrill
Astrill.com
price $29/for 3 months, $39/for 6 months, and $69/for 1 yr.

After using BOTH of these systems for over 2 weeks and after visiting the OII office in Marsh Harbor, I can safely say that OII, Out Island Internet is the better service. Here in Hopetown, Bahamas Wimax has only two signals, while OII had 4 and sometimes 5. OII has regularly worked better and more often. I have accounts on BOTH systems and I often jump from one to the other to compare these. When comparing directly side by side, OII always has worked better for me.

So, at this point, I will rate Out Island Internet as the better system to pay for. Maybe my next month will tell for sure....

Hayden, in Hopetown, where WiMax was not working and OII was today, yesterday they both worked...

Here in the lower Abacos in Little Harbor, it is Bahamas WiMax that has 4 signals and OII with 2 signals. Looks like WiMax could be the the better one here...the science project continues as I look for and document signal strength of WiFi around the Abacos...

ONE YEAR LATER.....BAHAMAS WIMAX RULES THE AIR....

This year, 2013, we have a noticeable change in WiFi services here in the ABACOS. The network admin from OII, Out Island Internet, Bill Lyman has been hired away from OII and is now the network admin for BAHAMAS WIMAX. This is the reason for the improved WiMax services. Plus WiMax is spending tons of money upgrading all the antennas and they even are adding services down in George Town.

Once again, this year, I bought 1 month service on OII plus one month on WiMax to compare the two. This cost me about $100 for each for a month of service. After a few days on OII and then on WiMax, I stopped using OII. WiMax stays logged in and keeps working really well. Plus I have found that it is faster and provides more access points.

Hayden, on WiMax in Abacos.
