Hayden, will this system work with an airport extreme modem and Mac computers? I expect it would but you mentioned needing to use Internet Explorer.
Thanks,
Gary

I do not see why not. The AirPort is a WiFi router and it also connects to a DSL/Cable modem. This DSL/Cable modem is usually via Ethernet wire, and that is the exact way that the Bullet connects to my router. I also see that the AirPort has a USB connection, so maybe you can connect an air card to that point for internet.

This past winter, I connected Bahamas BaTelCo SIM card to my above router via an AT&T Sierra Wireless Unlocked GSM USB modem. It worked great. The trick to that was to go into Batelco with your laptop, get the USB modem and SIM card working in their office. Once live and working, then simply plug this Internet device into the USB router port and the router is live via that connection.

The real trick to all of this is to learn your router interface and software. For example: Lets say I am in Georgetown Bahamas and I want Internet. I first have to decide will I connect via the Bullet or will I connect via the Modem/USB Batelco SIM. Once that decision is made, then you need to go into the router software and turn on or off the one you want to use. You also have to then scan and connect the bullet if you chose that.

Yes, most routers will have auto switch or load balancing when there are two connected internet devices on the router ie Bullet and USB SIM, but many times, you are managing connection times, and you want to select which one to use. This is why you need to learn your router software.

So, explore your AirPort and I bet with all those connection, USB, 4 Ethernets, you can do the same as above.

Hayden,
Thanks for the info. Ordering components this week. I will probably be asking more questions as I build the system.
I hope to be in North Channel this summer and as I buy wireless car will be asking them about Canadian roaming costs/ability. Going with Verizon as that is the cell phone service we have. I have been looking at buying a used hotspot for our 3G phones and if everything works well and we upgrade to 4G then buying new/newer 4G hotspot.
Thanks again.

You do not need a hot spot, as your phone can use a GREAT APP called PDAnet+
This app loads onto your Droid or iPhone and when turned on will make your phone a WiFi hotspot or if you plug it into your laptop via USB, it will connect to the net via your phone,

We used this ALL YEAR on the USA coast and it works great. Small charge for the app, but you get to try it free. I had a Verizon USB broadband card (like a hot spot) and last year cancelled it as this PDAnet+ works so well.

We have two Verizon phones and we each use it, that is how we go online now when on the boat.

This bullet rig is only needed for WiFi connection to shore.

MAKE SURE YOU STUDY THIS NEWER POST: this above is older...
