Through-Hulls & shutoff/ball valves was created by MacMcDermid
On my 1997 IP37 there are five Through Hulls (engine, generator, AC/Washdown pump, Holding Tank, Water/sink drain).
All seem to be Conbraco/Apollo. Three have become difficult to operate. I managed to service two and got them working nicely. The AC/Washdown is under the water tank in a place virtually impossible to work on.
My question is this. The Conbraco/Apollo all have shutoff/ball valves built in to the through-hull fitting. So if it needs to be replaced you must replace the whole through-hull fitting. On the other hand, Groco through-hull fittings have a threaded NPT section on the inside of he vessel to which you attach the shutoff/ball valve. So, while you likely have to haul the boat to replace them, you do not have to replace the whole through-hull fitting.
What advice opinions, can this forum offer?
