For those that have replaced the aluminum factory tank, what material did you use, who made the tank, and would you use them again?

Obviously having to do the same.  Thinking about splitting the 170 gallon tank into 2 tanks providing roughly 130 gallons.

I am a new owner of an IP320 and am having the same issue with the water tank. What did you end up doing? What would you do different?

Haven't started the water tank project yet. I'm considering making my own tanks using exterior plywood (not pressure treated), isophthalic polyester fiberglass, and one of the FDA approved epoxy coatings.

Making your own water tank might not be the best idea. You can easily get a high quality one from Dura Weld in Florida. Plus, making your own, might drive your boat for resale.
I would install a dura weld tank.

Hi sv Pawna,
The guys at DuraWeld made our replacement Waste tank for our IP380. They did a great job at very reasonable price. I'm sure they would make a really good water tank too. I concur with Hayden on making your own tank - unless you used commercial fiberglass sheets or can weld polypropolene (sp?) There is so much carpentry needed to replace any of the tanks, you might use your skills there - if you are really good. And just buy a proper tank.
Good luck with the project.

I got a quote for them for 2 - 70 gallon tanks to replace the 1 - 170 gallon tank.  It was very reasonable and the price is less than twice what I'd spend building them myself, so I'll be heading in that direction.  Hopefully shipping won't blow the budget.

Thanks for the input!

Hi- we are considering replacing our freshwater tank on our IP350 with a similar approach (two separate non aluminum tanks). Did you do this project and do you have any insights into this? We would need to cut the cabin sole and want to be sure we don’t weaken the structure to do this work.
