Cleaning Fresh Water Lines was created by Flyrod
I am cleaning my fresh water lines by running some Clorox Bleach through them per advice I found on Cruisers’ Forum.

The fresh water tank is full (95 gallons).

Should I run all 95 gallons through those lines?

What I am really asking is will all that water go out the thru hull even though I am not moving?

You should NOT put any bleach into your water tank at all. The tank is aluminum and chlorine will etch and break down the tank. You should mix one cup of bleach into a bucket, then pull off the fresh water pick up hose off the tank, extend this into the bucket. Now pump that bleach water into your water hoses and let it sit an hour. Then hook back up the water pick up line and flush the hoses. The smell in you water is from your hoses, not the tank.

I should have prefaced my question by mentioning my aluminum tanks were removed in 2018 and replaced with high grade plastic.

Previous owner did a thorough and fabulous job replacing the tank.

Yes, all that water will go out your thru hull drain. No problem.

Do you have any info on the water tank replacement done by the previous owner on your boat? I am a new IP320 owner and need to replace my water tank. I want to replace it with plastic or fiberglass and am looking for info.
Thanks,
Mel

Mel:
Many IP owners replace tanks with the plastic tanks made in Florida by the DURA WELD company. They have all the measurements and templates and they are the ones many owners are using.

For cleaning smelly water lines, I have been using H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide), as some suggested on the IP mail list. I buy the 12% solution on Amazon and dilute to 3% before adding to the tank. I went through some calculations for how much to add to the tank when filling. My conclusion is to add 3oz of the 12% (diluted) for 40 gal of water. This results in 70ppm H2O2, a safe level in drinking water. I can't taste or smell anything. You can certainly use higher concentrations if the lines really smell. The H2O2 just degrades to water and some extra O2.
Happy drinking - -
