Water tank failure on IP380 was created by Tricia
Good morning everyone

At last we can report on the very successful replacement of our water and holding tanks on the above boat. It was not as straight forward as could have been as the original design and construction of the boat had not allowed for work of this sort to be undertaken without major cutting up of the floor and sub structure, but we are pleased to say that the Marine Team at Mylor Yacht Harbour did a very good job for us.

The process in a nutshell was as follows ;

*Remove both glass fibre and wood floor which was glued down
*Remove water tanks which had to be cut out as impossible to remove otherwise
*Measure and order new tanks ( water tank had to be made in two, so they would fit)
*Refit and plumb in new tanks
*Replace floor and lay new holly and teak laminate flooring as the original had to be cut out and could not be reused due to damage. As we could not match existing pattern of wooden floor we had to change in all cabins and main saloon.
*The floor then had to be varnished.

The water and holding tanks were supplied by Tek Tanks and are in a food grade polythene so will not deteriorate. I must admit its wonderful to have water from the tanks without the aluminium deposits that clogged up our taps before.

It has taken a while for us to let you know what has gone on as we have now taken our boat down into the Med so we are all set for sun, sand and sea this year. We decided on this after the wet and soggy summer last year.

Please feel free to contact us if you require further information.

All the best Alan & Tricia Lane

Great news, Tricia. If you have any pictures, I, for one, would love to see them.

I've been thinking about changing holding tanks, so I'll look at Tek-Tank. Maybe they have a solution for me B)

We all would like to see your photos. Please use the photo link menu ipyoa.com/photos and make an album and add all you want. This is how we learn and share as a fleet.

Note. If your photos are large images, its best to resize them first or export smaller 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 images for uploading. That way they upload from you faster. This app will resize photos to 800 x 600.

Hi Tricia, I have an IP420 and need to change my water tank and waste tank, I just wondered what the cost of the Tek tanks were for your boat?
And how you designed the water tanks in two pieces, because I can't get a replacement tank in through the companion way so will need to have tank divided up.
Any info on how you arranged balance pipes, filler pipes etc would be a help.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hi Hayden, do you know if Alan's & Tricia's photo album of their water tank replacement is still available? Just started this same project on my IP35 and would like to see their photos. Thanks, Joe

Joe
Sorry about the url change but, I used the Google search under the photo menu and entered 380 water tank. That lead me to Alan's photo album.

Here is the link to his two albums posted about his tank replacements.
