ip 350 holding tank hole was created by phaley
just put the boat back into the water after spring commisioning in deltaville,va. Now after a couple wkends on the boat I have discovered the one thing I feared the most about our island packets. Using a mirror I see what seems to be a developing pinky finger size hole in the weld at the triangle on the bottom of the tank. the tank at this time has been pumped as well as possible.I was wondering from the forum experts.... would it be possilbe to bridge thru the summer on chesapecke till I haul in the fall .....if I could inject some j-b weld into the one small hole and possilby get a seal...:( to bridge me to a wallet draining job in the fall. any suggestions appeciated..............pete

JB Weld our plumbers weld our like material could patch it up from the bottom. Can you reach the leaking corner or weld?

Then I would scuff it with sand paper and patch it with jb weld. It can't hurt it. We have replaced our tank but on the 35 it is easier. let's hope your patch works. Please keep us posted so we all can learn.

There are also epoxy fuel tank mender kits, which are applied from the inside. I have seen these used sucessfully on motorcycle fuel tanks which had rusted out fro the inside out. If the hole is low, and it sounded like it was, you may be able to get the epoxy slurry to go to the hole and seal it. I would flush the tank thoroughly and then remove the hose which gave me the most direct access to the problem spot, I would also try to ballast the boat with water filled 5 gallon buckets perhaps to get the material to flow to the leak. If the hole is large enough the epoxy just runs out, just put some maskiing tape over the hole until the epoxy starts to set-up. This may prove to be a sufficiently permanent solution to take you a few seasons down the road.
