This is my second trip to NE Harbor Maine, and it is as great as I recall from my first trip. The locals say, this is the best harbor on Mt. Desert in all wind conditions. I have to agree. This is also the only place where I have seen floating docks used as mooring floats. Two boats per dock, one on each side, makes this really unique. It gives you a place to stand off the boat, and to land your dinghy, as well as easily visit with your cruising buddy boat. The dinghy dock is a short ride in, and the town is just one block up the hill. In town, there is everything a cruiser needs, hardware, groceries, ice cream, restaurants, "lobstha" and much more. The FREE LL BEAN bus also stops right at the dinghy dock and can be taken over to Bar Harbor where the bus center and visitors centers is located. So from NE Harbor, one can easily explore all of Acadia, and Mt. Desert. Prices in 2009 were $25.00/night for floats or moorings.
In this photo, you can see the dinghy dock with the MORRIS YACHTS service dock as well and 5 Morris yachts on display! What a boat show!
