Choice of preventers for IP 40 was created by mfrobb
I'm in the process of thinking about setting up a preventer and am wondering what the experience people have in terms of choices, setups and ease of use. Thanks for your help

We've been using a very simple preventer system designed by Wichard. We picked it up at the Annapolis boat show a couple of years ago. Basically it is comprised of a simple bracket that attaches to your boom and a special piece of friction line that is looped through it, once, twice or three times depending on the size of boat. I then simply used my old IP genoa blocks in the track to run the lines back to the cockpit. This method means adding another set of genoa blocks in the tracks, but having blown both out on an IP40 coming down to the Caribbean, I think they needed upgrading anyway.
Best,

We have the Wichard system and the instructions state it should never be used as a preventer. It is simply used to control the boom during a jibe.
