Augydoggy wrote: Caesura - Is it possible the water is rain water and the corrosion on the bolts is from a poor bonding connection? We had significant damage to the bolts on our rudders stuffing box. The bolts were stainless, the box was bronze, the bonding wire connection was poor and water leaking through created a battery effect. Sucked the metal right out of the bolts. We now have bronze bolts on a bronze box with a good bonding connection.

ip485 wrote: It is difficult to tell from the photo and will help when I look at mine, but it doesnt look especially corroded to me? There is some dirty water and deposit but I would be inclinded to give the section a wash out perhaps with a pressure washer and then spray with some corrosion protection. If you are a member of the other IP forum there are some pictures of a plate there (that I referred to before) but I dont know if it is the same design as the 485.
