I don't know why two minutes is key but I have seen it make a difference on many occassions. If that fails remove all power (AC and DC) from ship (airplane/boat) and then repower the ship and then the effected equipment. Depowering a jet half way through preflight is not done lightly but it is occasionally the only thing that can be regain the effected equipment. This especially true with electronics.
