Adler/Barbour Cold Machine was created by bbowman294
We have an Island Packet 29 (#10) that has a Adler/Barbour Cold Machine refrigeration system for the ice box. It has R-12 refrigerant presently. Two years ago I had the system checked/recharged with R-12 by a certified R-12 marine refrigeration technician. It wasn't cooling very well so I thought it was time to have it checked. It cost $125 and worked a "little better after that and now again it doesn't work so well. I'm assuming there's a leak somewhere. I am considering evacuating/having the system evacuated of the R-12, obtaining the Freeze 12 full repair/replacement kit and continuing to keep the system charged myself. Anyone have any experience with the Freeze 12 replacement materials. It appears that it is EPA qualified.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill:
We have the AB super cold machine, air cooled on our IP35-165, 1994 and this system had a leak and was fixed by the original owner over 10 years ago. Since 2002, we turn our on in April and off in October and it keeps the freezer plate/box section at 20 degrees. If I were you, I would find the and fix the leak and then the system will work for a long time. I do not have any experience with Freeze 12.
