Key West to Dry Tortugas was created by ddrumone
In July I plan a short jaunt from Key West to Dry Tortugas. My concern is the return trip, doing 70 miles with the typical wind on the nose. Any tips are welcome.

The winds will always shift as the typical fronts come thru. so simply look at the weather pattern and time your sail out on trades and then try to run a front back. The fronts will pull the winds to the S then SW then W then NW then N then NE until they are back to East trades. If you want to sail it back then you need to time a front.

We use the www.PredictWind.com app and that will show you the wind pattern for 7-1o days. We find it is very good for this exact situation.

We did the trip to Dry Tortugas in APR of 2017. It was easy to find a NE front to get back to Key West, but our problem was that we need to get back to Fort Myers...and that was another story...
