Hi all, glad to see a group started for this boat! I am a prospective new owner and would really like a little guidance on what I should pay close attention to during the boat hunt. Keep trying to look at larger boats but keep coming back to these great looking yachts. Interested in bay and coastal cruising between cape henlopen and cape cod...am I looking at the wrong boat for a couple?

The 27 is a great boat for a couple. My Wife and I sailed one for 10 years from the C&D canal all over the Chesapeake Bay and down to the Outter Banks of NC. These can be found int he price range of 35K to 45K. I may someday return to the IP27, as she is one cute boat with great lines, and she sails well. Do it....you will love it....

Hi IP27 afficienados,

I am looking into installing a manual windlass on Starsinger, IP27-80 Cutter rigged. There are a couple of issues, one is that the inner stay gets in the way of mounting the windlass so that it can access the hawse pipes. the second is that mounting the windlass farther aft is limited by the presence of the club footed jib and it's attachment hardware.

I am looking at a Lofrans Royal Windlass. I see that one has been mounted on an IP 31 by glassing over the original hawse pipe holes and installing a new 'bridge board on top of the bow bulwark.

My plan is to do the same but build the platform further aft to allow new hawse holes and pipes to be installed. To do this I would need remove the staysail boom and hardware and convert the control lines to port and starboard sheets.

Any thoughts or experiences with this kind of installation would be appreciated. Flashes of sanity are also welcome.

Changes in health demand that we get mechanical assistance with anchoring chores.

Glad to find this new group. Anxious to hear from IP27 fans and owners.

Cheers

Mel

Hi Mel, we were just planning to install a windlass on our 27. All the things you speak of are true. the yard said they would have to build an aluminum bridge to raise the windlass, reroute the furler line to the port side etc. But he said we would be able to use the existing hawse holes. A VERY expensive proposition. We were looking at an electric windlass with foot switches, and remote at the helm. Total with installation, about $3500. We opted for new wind instruments instead. Like us, maybe a light weight Fortress anchor would do the trick. One for that size boat isn't too heavy at all.

Great GROUP IDEA, the IP27 is a wonderful boat, we owned IP27-058 Cinnamon from 1991 to 2001. 10 wonderful years. We sailed here from the C&D Canal to the Outer Banks, NC and all places in between. We would move aboard for the summer and sail all of July and Aug. I will see if I can find so old Cinnamon 27 photos. She is now in Mystic CT and is called TIKI

That would be great. I was wondering if you have any input on getting my first boat loan. I know how to get a mortgage but never borrowed money for a boat before. Where do I start?
